In early 2009, Markus “Notch” Persson created Minecraft and released it on the TIGSource forums. Almost 2 years and over 16 Million registered accounts later, Minecraft is now officially released as version 1.0!

Notch throws the lever to officially launch Minecraft

Minecraft is an indie success story. It has gone through various stages of development and has now reached an official release which was launched at Minecon Las Vagas. Also released recently is the iOS and Android version of Minecraft Pocket Edition (Creative mode at this stage) which you can multiplay with your friends also using the  Pocket edition, regardless if iOS or Android. Also showing at Minecon is the xbox live arcade version of Minecraft.

Though officially released, we’ve been told that development will not stop and new content will continue to be created for Minecraft so keep an eye out!
